Overwhelmed by the Complexity of ? This May Help

Several children perish annually as a result of auto accidents. As such, you need to be extra careful when you are driving in the company of your kids. According to the 2016 statistics, 128,000 children sustained critical injuries due to car accidents while 723 other children died. Keep reading here to discover some vital precautions that can help keep you safe from car accidents when driving with children on board.

Your first step should be to avoid distractions. Most parents are aware that the drive-throughs and the use of cell phones when driving with your children is one of the factors that must be avoided. However, you should encourage the kids to avoid talking too much, asking questions, and making comments that might distract your driving concentration. Consider keeping a pen and a notebook in your car so your kids can write the questions and comments they would like you to address once you are not behind the wheel.

Second, avoid driving while you are tired. Scientists report that fatigue reduces your thinking, perception depth, reaction time, and skills necessary for safe driving. If it is a must to travel with the children in your car when exhausted, call a relative to get behind the wheel. Inform your relatives that you need a designated driver as you do not want to drive your children when feeling tired. The family members will either offer you a ride or someone to drive you to your destination.

Third, ensure your car is well maintained. Visit your mechanic every month so he can check if something needs being fixed. Professional mechanics are at a better position to detect a problem in your car before you do. Having the issue fixed will help avoid either getting in a serious accident or the car breaking down during the journey and leaving you stranded.

Fourth, always drive carefully. Although you might be careful, the drivers around you might be carefree. If you notice a reckless driver in front of you, slow down to increase your distance from him. In the worst case scenario, consider changing your direction of travel to protect your family from a reckless driver.

Fifth, allow a gap of at least two-second gap from the driver ahead. The 2-second gap will ensure that you can stop on time in case of an emergency. The duration will help ensure that you can stop on time without causing a rear-end collision.

Lastly, recheck all directions before passing an intersection. Regardless whether you have the right of way or green light, distracted and lawless drivers may not always observe these factors. You should opt to delay your schedule a bit for you to get at the destination safely.
